The Correct Meaning of the Poems according to Mao: Jiumu in the Zhounan section of the Airs of the States (An electronic version)

《樛木》，後妃逮下也。言能逮下，而無嫉妒之心焉。

［疏］「《樛木》三章，章四句」至「之心焉」。正義曰：

作《樛木》詩者，言后妃能以恩義接及其下眾妄，使俱以進御於王也。後妃所以能恩意逮下者，而無嫉妒之心焉。定本「焉」作「也」。逮下者，三章章首二句是也。既能逮下，則樂其君子，安之福祿，是由於逮下故也。

後妃能和諧眾妾，不嫉妒其容貌，恆以善言逮下而安之。

樛，居虯反，木下曲曰樛，《字林》九稠反。馬融、《韓詩》本並作「朻」，音同，《字林》已周反。《說文》以朻為木高。逮，徒帝反。「之心焉」，崔《集注》本此序有鄭注，檢眾本並無。

南有樛木ㆍ葛藟纍之ㆍ

興也。南，南土也。木下曲曰樛。南土之葛藟茂盛。

箋云：

木枝以下垂之故，故葛也藟也得累而蔓之，而上下俱盛。興者，喻後妃能以意下逮眾妾，使得其次序，則眾妾上附事之，而禮義亦俱盛。南土謂荊、楊之域。

藟，本亦作「藟」，力軌反，似葛之草。《草木疏》云：「一名巨荒，似燕薁，亦連蔓，葉似艾，白色，其子赤，可食。」累，力追反，纏繞也，木又作「累」。「上附」，時掌反。

樂只君子ㆍ福履綏之ㆍ

南有樛木ㆍ葛藟荒之ㆍ

荒，奄。將，大也。

箋云：

此章申殷勤之意。將猶扶助也。

樂只君子ㆍ福履將之ㆍ

南有樛木ㆍ葛藟縈之ㆍ

縈，旋也。成，就也。

本又作「縈」，烏營反，《說文》作「𡙻」。

樂只君子ㆍ福履成之ㆍ

《樛木》三章，章四句。
