    • : This digital XML edition, which follows TEI standards, is based on a Zhang Hua 張華 (232-300) Bowuzhi 博物志 (On all Things) facsimile of an 1875 (清光緒元年) xylographic edition by Hubei chong wen shu ju 湖北崇文書局 kept at the BULAC Library (Paris, France), call number: BIULO CHI.1140. The original is a 1 thread bound volume 27 cm high. The copy reproduced here and kept at the BULAC is part of a larger collection, 子書百家 (One Hundred Books of the Masters), compiled and printed in 1875 (清光緒元年) by the official Chongwen publishing house in Wuhan (湖北崇文書局). It was donated in 1915 to the library of the Ecole des langues orientales vivantes, by a certain Herzog. XML version of this text also available in the Nakala Repository CKP and the Bowuzhi Collections. The images corresponding to this edition are also preserved in both the CKP and Bowuzhi collections of the Nakala Repository. This 10-chapter work, compiled by Zhang Hua (232-300), a scholar of the Western Jin dynasty (265-316), can be considered an ancestor of the encyclopaedic tradition, as it brings together all kinds of quotations and extracts associated with one theme, that of natural wonders and marvellous phenomena. It differs, however, in the prominence it gives to narrative texts, which it mixes with extracts from other types of text. These extracts include reports on geography, historical figures, strange plants and animals, and tales of fairies, gods and immortals. Most of the stories are quoted from ancient sources of very different literary types, including geographical treatises, historical figures or reports on extraordinary plants and animals, as well as biographies of Taoist immortals or myths and legends. The work reflects an approach to knowledge of geography, history, flora and fauna, and many other subjects specific to the Chinese Middle Ages. It is therefore an essential witness to the study of knowledge in medieval China

    • : This edition mainly aims at bringing to light three elements. The first one is the structure of the text that is made of different layers, i.e. base text, title, prefaces, commentaries, and other annotations. The editorial work also includes orthographic emendation and adding of modern punctuation (see below). Finally, the text is enriched through the identification of quotations.
    • : Modern punctuation is added to the text as often as possible. Within poems, a general principle of separating linked lines by simple comma is applied. Within prose, commas and periods are proposed, although some passages could be alternatively interpreted. Titles are identified using quotation marks of this type 《Title》, whereas citations begin and end with quotation marks of that type 「Citation」.
    • : As often as possible, each citation is linked to its source (either a person or a title) and identified between quotation marks. Beginning of citation passage is identified using 'cit' tag, followed by 'ref' if source is identified, and by 'quote' for quoted text material.
